SLR15 Rifle Specs - Chrome Lined Wilson and Shaw Barrels
We build four barrel configurations depending on the SLR15 Rifle Model and Level you select. Levels 2 and 3 use a Chrome Lined Barrel; Level 1 Rifles use a Chrome Alloy Barrel.
We generally use a 1/9 twist barrel in a 5.56 NATO Chamber. We will do other barrel twists, such as 1/7, upon request.
The Chrome Lined Barrel is what many prefer, because it aids in lubricity during extractions, providing more reliability under intense heated field conditions. This extends barrel life and is more corrosion-resistant during harsh field conditions. That is why the U.S. Military prefers Chrome Lined. It also allows easier cleaning.
1/9 Twist is chosen because it allows the greatest range of bullet weight and shapes. We find that most shooters practice and use a 55gr FMJ, which easily stabilizes from this twist rate. The 1/9 twist rate uses 55-68 gr projectiles.
Barrel Configurations
- The SLR15 Operator Rifle (14.5 inch or 16 inch Barrel) is made with Military profile relief cuts.
- The Military style relief cuts on the barrel allow the attachment of the M203 Grenade
Launcher, as well as other types of flare and smoke launchers. Law Enforcement Officers
are able to attach the M203 type launchers that allow less lethal force options of
Impact Munitions, CS/CN Tear Gas, OC, Stinger and Distraction Device
Munitions.
- The SLR15 Commander Rifle (16 inch barrel) uses a barrel with uses a full length sight radius and full length hand guards.
The full length sight radius is more user friendly. We find that most shooters have an easier time getting
consistent hits on their desired target with ease due to the longer site radius.
The full length hand guards keep the barrel protected, with the bulk of the barrel is
under the hand guards. This hand guard protection keeps the barrel from being
touched directly to an object like a barricade or cover. If a barrel is touched
directly to an object and fired, the barrel acts like a tuning fork, and when touched during
its harmonic vibrations and is interrupted, the interruptions in vibrations will send
the bullet to another impact area from where the sites are aligned, resulting in an inaccurate shot.
This barrel has the same Military style relief cuts as the SLR15 Operator Rifle.
- The SLR15 Entry Rifle (11.5 inch) has a lightweight barrel. This rifle is sold only to Law Enforcement. The compact size makes the SLR15 Entry Rifle ideal for entry work and close quarter engagements.
